Nigeria Champions Global Air Power Competition At SICOFAA Symposium In The Dominican Republic

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to advancing international air power cooperation while representing the nation in his dual capacity as Chief of the Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force and Chairman of the Association of African Air Forces (AAAF) at the SICOFAA Symposium in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Addressing a distinguished gathering of Air Chiefs, senior military leaders and strategic partners from across the Americas and Africa, the CAS underscored the importance of strengthening global partnerships to address emerging security challenges. His participation at the high-level forum further highlights Nigeria’s growing recognition as a key contributor to international peace, security and defence cooperation.

Speaking on the symposium’s theme, Air Marshal Aneke observed that today’s evolving security environment, characterised by terrorism, transnational crime, humanitarian crises and natural disasters, requires greater innovation, interoperability and strategic collaboration among Air Forces worldwide. He noted that the AAAF continues to serve as a vital platform for promoting professional excellence, capacity building and the exchange of best practices across the African continent while fostering stronger partnerships with like-minded organisations such as SICOFAA. He also identified opportunities for deeper cooperation in joint exercises, air mobility, search and rescue, aerospace medicine, logistics support and disaster response operations, all aimed at enhancing collective operational effectiveness.

The CAS further highlighted the planned African Air Forces Field Training Exercise scheduled for Kenya in 2027 as a landmark initiative that will strengthen readiness for joint security and humanitarian operations involving African Air Forces and selected international partners. Reaffirming the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to promoting collective security, professional excellence and enduring global partnerships, Air Marshal Aneke called on participants to translate their deliberations into practical outcomes that would deepen trust, strengthen interoperability and enhance international air power cooperation. His engagement at the symposium not only reinforces the Nigerian Air Force’s strategic role on the global stage but also projects Nigeria’s positive image as a dependable partner committed to fostering peace, stability and collaborative security across regions.
