Manchester United stars Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba savoured three very important points after each scored in Wednesday’s 2-1 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Pogba broke the deadlock just before half-time and James McArthur equalised for the Eagles soon into the second half, before Ibrahimovic hit a clinical 88th-minute winner. Although the pair of summer signings both expressed a desire to have sealed the win earlier on, both were more than happy with the result.

“We knew it was going to be difficult at this stadium,” Pogba told BT Sport. “Tonight we weren’t really happy with the performance of the team but, you know, sometimes you don’t play well and you win.”

Pogba’s opener caused some controversy after the ball appeared to bounce off Zlatan’s arm, giving the striker an assist that might have been ruled out. “It could have hit my arm,” Ibra admitted. “I tried to push the ball forward to Paul because I saw he was free. I think it might have touched my hand a little bit and then maybe my stomach but I need to see the images to be sure.”

Taking on Crystal Palace only three days after beating Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Sunday was a difficult task for the Reds, but Pogba expressed his certainty that it was a deserved win.

“The games can go both ways but we had more chances than them,” the France international said, “although we had some great saves as well by David De Gea.”

Ibrahimovic has now scored eight goals in his last eight matches but Pogba was given the Man of the Match prize by BT Sport and the Swede joked that his friend could “keep the award for him”.

United are next in action against West Bromwich Albion at 17:30 GMT on Saturday.
