Army War College Participants Visit Operation Hadarin Daji

As part of the crucial component of their training, the participants of Course 7/2023 Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) undertook a visit to Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) in Zamfara State. The visit, led by Brigadier General Aminu Umar, the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies, aimed to provide participants with practical insights into conducting estimates and reviewing ongoing operational plans, within an academic framework.

In an engaging and informative interaction, the participants were warmly received by the Commander Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji/General Officer Commanding 8 Division Sokoto, Major General Godwin Mutkut.

The visit, which took place on Thursday, August 31, 2023, is a critical component of the Operational Art and Campaigning Module. This module is designed to provide participants with hands-on experience in conducting estimates and reviewing plans of ongoing operations within an academic context. It seeks to enable participants to apply the enhanced skills they have developed during the course to the processes of operational and tactical estimation as well as the development of campaign plans and Concept of Operation.

The operational theatre visit initiative demonstrates a commitment to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application within the realm of military operations. During the visit, the participants gained valuable insights into the complexities of real-world operational planning and execution.

Accompanying Brigadier General Aminu Umar, the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies, were esteemed Members of Faculty comprising Brigadier General UG Yusuf, Colonel MA Shonibare, Colonel AN Eze, Colonel NC Okafor, Colonel NE Okoloagu, Colonel SA Mohammed, Colonel AU Abdul, and Group Captain E Benson.

The visit not only enriched the educational experience of the participants but also fostered collaboration between the College and operational sectors of the military. The initiative embodies the dedication of the Army War College Nigeria to producing leaders who are well-equipped to tackle complex challenges in the evolving landscape of modern warfare. It also reaffirms the importance of practical exposure in complementing theoretical learning and ensuring that military professionals are prepared to make informed decisions and contributions to their respective commands.
