Commander 22 Brigade Lauds NDLEA, Urges Troops To Stay Away From Illicit Drugs

The Commander 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Adebayo Babalola has applauded the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), for sustaining its lead role in curbing drug abuse and sensitizing the society on its consequences.

General Babalola made this known today 13 September 2023, while giving opening remarks to kickstart a 2 – Day sensitization lecture on Illicit Drugs and other Related Substances, organized for the troops of 22 Brigade and affiliated units at the 222 Battalion (Rear) Training Shade, Sobi Military Cantonment Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Commander maintained that the lecture was timely as it would go a long way in awakening the consciousness of personnel of the Brigade on the dangers of drug abuse, illicit substances as well as possible preventive mechanisms.

He further urged troops to stay away from illicit drugs and substances, adhere and put into practice the knowledge they would gain from the lectures, adding that he was pleased to have the State Commander of the Agency to deliver the lecture himself.

While delivering his lecture, the State Commander NDLEA Kwara State Command, Commander of Narcotics (CN) Mohammed Ibrahim Bashir, stressed on the need for men of the Nigerian Army (NA) to abstain from the intake of illicit drugs and substances, buttressing that the abuse of such drugs negatively affects their health, personal wellbeing and operations at large.

Mr Bashir noted that the abuse of drugs among men of the NA could pose great danger to the work force, as it may lead to poor job performance, risk, problems in terms of readiness, discipline, mental and physical health of personnel amongst others.

Proffering ways to prevent the abuse of drugs among troops, the NDLEA boss stated that the military could observe zero tolerance for drug use in operations, organize a random drug test among personnel, provide regular sensitization and awareness programs as well as providing free counselling for affected persons, among other related means.

High point of the event was the interactive session, presentation of souvenir as well as group photograph.

In attendance were the Acting Chief of Staff of the Brigade Lieutenant Colonel A Buhari, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers of NDLEA Kwara State Command, Officers and men of 22 Brigade and its affiliated units.
