Man City’s Leroy Sane and Pep Guardiola Win Premier League Awards
Manchester City’s blistering start to the Premier League has seen them rewarded yet again as Pep Guardiola and Leroy Sane have won the Premier League Manager and Player of the Month awards for October.
City, enjoying an eight-point lead in the Premier League – fired in a staggering 13 goals in the three games played in October to see their manager Guardiola claim the award for the second month in a row.
Guardiola has now won back-to-back Manager of the Month award as unbeaten City sit on top of the Premier League having won their last nine league matches.
It’s a third manager of the month award for the 46-year-old who saw off competition from Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino, Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger and Burnley’s Sean Dyche.
Meanwhile, it’s a first Player of the Month accolade for winger Sane after recording a goal and an assist in each of his three Premier League appearances during October.
Sane beat off the challenge from five other players to win the award, including his own team-mate Kevin De Bruyne, Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal, Brighton’s Glenn Murray, Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope and Crystal Palace star Wilfred Zaha.
The 21-year-old becomes only the second German to claim the gong after Tottenham’s Jurgen Klinsmann won the first ever monthly award in August 1994.
Sane moved to the Etihad in the summer of 2016 from Schalke for £37m and has scored 11 goals in 37 Premier League appearances, including six so far this term, and five assists.
He is also the joint most creative force in the Premier League alongside team-mate Sergio Aguero, who has eight goals, three assists.
