Meet The New Chief Of Defence Staff, Maj Gen Christopher Gwabin Musa

Maj Gen Christopher Gwabin Musa was born on Christmas day 25 Dec in ancient city in Sokoto Caliphate. He hails from Zangon Kataf Local Govt Area here in Kaduna. He was commissioned into the Infantry Corps on 21 September 1991 as a member of the high flying 38 regular Course from the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND 

General Musa is well learned as he is a graduate of numerous Civil and Military Institutions. He had his early education in Sokoto from Marafa Danbaba and Model Primary School. Vocational Training Centre in Gaummi and Federal Government College. He also attended College of Advanced Studies, Zaria. Before he proceeding to Nigerian Defence Academy where he bagged Bachelor of Science Hons in Chemistry. He posses Advanced Diploma in Security Management from University of Lagos and Masters in Military Science from the renowned International College of Defence Studies-National Defence University Beijing China. 

MILITARY/CIVIL COURSES 

CIC has attended various Military Courses commensurate to his rank some of which are: Mechanical Transportation Officers Course – 1992, Young Officers Course (Infantry) – 1993, Regimental Signal Officers Course – 1998, Junior Course – 2000, Senior Course in Jaji – 2004 – 2005. Advance Diploma in Defence and Strategies Course 2013 and Masters in Military Science – 2013 both from International College of Defense Studies National Defense University ICDS-BDU Beijing China. Combined Joint Land Component Commander’s Course on Leadership at the US Army War College. 

APPOINTMENTS HELD 

Commander has held various appointments cutting across Staff, Instructional and Command.  As a subaltern General CG Musa once held the appointments including Platoon Commander, Intelligence Officer, Administrative Officer, Pioneer Adjutant, Operations Officer – NIBATT 8 UNAMSIL. General Staff Officer 1 Training/Operations at HQ 81 Division, Commanding Officer 73 Bn, Assistant Director Operational Requirement at Department of Army Policy and Plans, Deputy Chief of Staff Training/Operations at HQ Infantry Corps, Chief of Staff at HQ 2 Division, Commandant Depot Nigerian Army, Pioneer Executive Director Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches Ltd, Commander 82 Division Task Force Brigade OP LAST HOLD in the North East. Commander Sector 3 OP LAFIYA DOLE, Comd Sector 3 Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Tchad Region, Chief of General Duties TRADOC, Director Campaign Planning AHQ DATOPs, Director Training AHQ-DATOPs, Senior Research Fellow, Nigerian Army Research Centre, Theatre Comd JTF (NE) Op HADIN KAI and Commander Infantry Corps

He has participated in various operations including OP MESA, OP Focus Relief (Joint Training/Ops with the US Troops), United Nation Mission in Sierra Leone, OP Restore Hope, OP Last Hold, OP Lafiya Dole, Multi-National Joint Task Force Lake Tchad, OP kantana Jimlam, Joint Task Force North East Op HADIN KAI.

HONOURS/AWARDS 

Officer of the Federal Republic, Grand Service Star, Passed Staff Course, General Operation Medal, Command Medal, Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award, Training Support Medal, Field Commander Medal of Honour, Masters in Military Science, Fellow Disaster Management and Safety Science among other National and International recognitions. 

He is married to Mrs Lilian Oghogho Musa and the union blessed with lovely children. Commander takes pleasure in serving humanity.
