Shun Acts That Will Jeopardise Your Career — Theatre Commander Charges Candidates For Promotion Examination

The Theatre Commander Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General W Shaibu has charged officers sitting for the In – Theatre Lieutenant to Captain Practical Promotion Examination (LCPPE), to put in their best and avoid all acts that would undermine the sanctity of the examination or jeopardise their chosen career.

General Shaibu who is the Examination President, handed down the charge today 11 February 2024, during his address to candidates for the In – Theatre LCPPE at the Theatre Command Officers’s Mess Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri.

The President noted that their nomination to participate in the exercise, was based on their professional competence, adding that the task ahead was crucial, as the Lieutenant – Captain practical examination was one of the determinants for the candidate’s career progression in the Nigerian Army (NA). He enjoined the members of Directing Staff (DS) to bring their experience to bear for an excellent outing, stressing that the assessment must be made with uttermost professionalism in line with the contemporary setting in OPHK and other operations across the country.

The Theatre Commander further stated that the examination should be designed to help the NA
produce well trained problem solving officers, as encapsulated in the Chief of Army Staff Command Philosophy, which is ” To Transform the NA into a Well – Trained, Equipped and Highly Motivated Force Towards Achieving our Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment.

Earlier, the Examination Coordinator and Theatre Training Officer, Brigadier General SJA Ilori in his opening address, welcomed members of DS and all candidates to Maiduguri, stating that 183 candidates drawn from different Formations and Units in the NE Theatre of Operations were shortlisted for the examination. He said all necessary arrangements were in place to ensure a hitch free exercise.

The candidates who have already undergone medical test, 3.2 kilometres run and other physical training test, will be assessed on Weapon Training, Map Reading, Night Navigation, Skill at Arms and Administration in the Field amongst others. They would also be assessed on handling of equipment placed at their disposal at this level.

Present during the address were; Army Headquarters and Training and Doctrine Command representatives, senior officers from Headquarters Theatre Command, members of Examination Panel and DS amongst others.
